Who are HomeDAO?
HomeDAO brings together the sharpest and most motivated minds to spearhead the construction and growth of the third web.
As the Western World, Europe in particular, once the cradle of growth and innovation, lags behind and turns in on itself, HomeDAO offers a beacon of hope to the ambitious outliers searching for a new society.
We have built a community, supported by physical infrastructure in the form of hacker houses and workspaces, to explore and act upon the most compelling challenges that we face, as an industry and a society. All resident members of HomeDAO live together in HomeDAO hacker houses in either Oxford (the Oxford Crypto Village), or London, and derive long-lasting benefit from full immersion in entrepreneurial culture and our first-principles approach.
Since launch in November 2022, with support from leaders such as Alan Howard, ConsenSys, Nickel Digital and NEAR Protocol, we have won at every ETH Global hackathon attended (10/10) & our collective efforts have led to the creation of more than $100m in value (by capitalisation, determined by institutional investors), 7+ venture-backed startups, working on a broad range of problems, from modular account abstraction and hardware innovation for the EVM, to infra for market making illiquid assets, gaming, applications of reinforcement learning for smart contract security, insurance protocols and more. Life in HomeDAO is a key part of this. We host weekly events and lectures at our HQ, always in person, never recorded, to enable the sharing of uncomfortable advice and secrets that are often hidden from the public eye, and only ever whispered. We travel together to hackathons around the world, where we work on new ideas and discover opportunities for our startups. We go to VC dinners to learn from those with a birds-eye view of the industry and meet potential partners. We live and work together, day-in, day-out, exponentiating our learning along the way.
Joining HomeDAO
As a HomeDAO member, you will become part of an exclusive community with access to mentorship, investors and partners. You may choose to live in a HomeDAO house and become a resident member, and also set up a new node in a new city. Each house is its own node in the HomeDAO network, and each individual has a say on the growth and direction of the project. You should expect the accountability, inspiration, co-ordination and signal that being a HomeDAO member entails to hugely boost your trajectory.
We value the strength of our community in our capacity as individuals, and in the high-trust society and friendship we form along the way. Thus, joining HomeDAO is not straightforward. We encourage everyone to apply, and accept applications from all walks of life. Becoming a resident member is difficult and requires significant commitment.
Once you have applied here, you will be interviewed by members. It won’t be a formal call, the intention is to get to know you and your motivations for joining. You’ll then be invited to visit in-person. You’ll get a sense for what it is like to be a member and whether it’s a fit for you. The reverse also applies - at the end of your stay, HomeDAO members will anonymously vote on your application.
Prospective Members
We look for individuals who are outliers in their given fields and have a frontier mindset. There is no Platonic ideal of the HomeDAO member, you will be assessed on your individual merits & abilities. Some HomeDAO members are fellows of Oxford colleges. Many have prestigious accolades and credentials. Others dropped out of secondary school before finishing their GCSEs and are now running companies. We assess people by our own standards, not society’s outdated ones.
